Subject:                               Case of COVID-19 in School

We were recently notified that a person at Crow Middle/High School was diagnosed with COVID-19.  As a school community, we are providing a caring and confidential response to the affected individual and to those who are concerned about potential exposure. We are working closely with Lane County Public Health to protect the community’s health.

Each situation calls for different protocols. In this case, we have taken (or will take) these steps:

1.            Review contact tracing logs. (Due to physical distancing, no other individuals are considered close contacts and required to quarantine. The source of infection is linked to out-of-school contact.)

2.            Post this letter to the District website and social media to inform staff and families.

3.            Provide an automated call to all families to ensure timely notification.

4.            We clean classrooms after each class period and thoroughly clean common areas throughout the day.

The best ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is to wear a cloth face covering, maintain physical distance and practice habits of good hygiene. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, cover your coughs and sneezes, and avoid contact with people who have signs of illness. Face coverings help prevent those who have the virus but don’t have symptoms from passing it to others.

Primary COVID-19 symptoms include fever of 100.4 or higher, chills, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, and/or a new loss of taste or smell.

We will keep you updated with any new information as it comes out, while meeting our obligation to honor everyone's right to privacy.

More information can be found on the Oregon Department of Education’s Ready Schools, Safe Learners page, the Oregon Health Authority’s COVID-19page.

Sincerely,

Malcom McRae, Superintendent CAL School District
